Privacy Policy
Who we are
Lever is built on trust. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Lever is run by Lever Movement Limited, a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (company number 16682226). We're the data controller for the information covered in this policy.

What we collect
Your postcode. When you verify as a constituent, we ask for your postcode. We use it to match you to a UK parliamentary constituency and confirm you're a resident.
We don't ask for your name, address, date of birth, or any other identifying document at this stage. We keep the verification outcome (yes, you're a constituent of X) rather than the postcode itself once that match is made.
Email address, if you sign up for updates. If you opt in to our newsletter or app update emails, we collect your email address. This is entirely optional and separate from constituent verification.
Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Netlify) logs standard technical information such as IP address and browser type for security and performance. We don't use this to identify you personally.
How we use it
- To verify your constituency and show you locally relevant content.
- To count verified constituents per constituency, so MPs can see the scale of local support on an issue, without seeing individual names.
- To send you updates, if you've opted in.
- To keep the platform secure and working properly.
We never use your data to profile you for advertising, and we don't sell it to anyone.
Who we share it with
Mailchimp (or a similar email platform) handles our newsletter and update emails. If you sign up, your email address is stored on their servers under their own privacy policy. We only send them the email address, nothing else.
Netlify hosts our website and handles technical logs as described above.
We don't share your postcode or verification status with any third party. Aggregated, anonymised constituent counts may be shared with MPs and relevant organisations as part of Lever's core purpose, but these never include your name or contact details.
Legal basis
We process your postcode on the basis of your consent, given when you submit it for verification. You can withdraw this at any time by asking us to delete your data.
We process your email address, if you provide one, on the same basis: consent, given when you opt in.
How long we keep it
We keep your verification outcome for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete this too.
If you've opted in to updates, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can:
- Ask what data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Ask us to export your data in a portable format.
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we've got something wrong.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@mylever.org.
Cookies
Lever's website uses only the technical cookies needed to make it work (for example, remembering that you're logged in). We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Children
Lever isn't intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if anything changes and note the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know directly if you've given us your email.
